Kurdish young boy Aram Raoof took the second place at the European Downhill Cup

 

On 27 June, 2010, in Leogang (Austria) were held the iXS European Downhill Cup, an international biking competition. Over 400 participants from 25 countries took part in the racing. In class “Under 17 male” Aram Raoof, a 16-year-old Kurd from Poland took second place. The winner of the “Under 17” race was Ville Ormo (Finland).

Aram Raoof is the son of Kurd who lives in Poland. He has practiced mountain biking sport since the age of eight. He has participated many times in the downhill races in lots of towns in Poland and abroad attaining successes.

The course of Leogang’s race was 2300 meters long with a vertical drop of 480 meters The race in Leogang has been one of the leg of a series of iXS European Downhill Cup holding in many towns in different countries in Europe.

The concept of downhill is to get down the mountain as fast as possible. It is a true test of nerve, and one's ability to control their bike under extreme conditions. Downhill races are held in steep, downhill terrain. Riders race individually, starting at intervals that vary from 30 seconds to three minutes-depending on the stage of the competition. The rider with the fastest time wins. The course usually contains a series of big jumps and drops over bumpy terrain. Most race courses contain trees, rocks, sharp bends and other obstacles.
